Can't believe his luck! Wants you to bomb him with this book, ASAP SD!

"...Italian translation of a Jerry interview and history of the band..."

Hmmm, called back and asked about German too...

Weird you should mention German & Italian Tell. I'm reading part of the book in question and what I just read is this quote from Jerry regarding his near death experience while in a coma:

"The whole process of going into a coma was very interesting.. It was a slow onset-it took about a week-and during this time I started feeling like the vegetable kingdom was speaking to me.
It was communicating in comic dialect in iambic pentameter. SO THERE WERE THESE ITALIAN ACCENTS AND GERMAN ACCENTS and it got to be this vast gabbling. Potatoes and radishes and trees were all speaking to me. It was really strange. It finally just reached hysteria and that's when I passed out and woke up in the hospital."

Talking vegetables and passing out to wake up? Sounds kinda fucked. I'm further intrigued as it was the interview with Garcia that caught my eye in the first place.

Thanks SkyDawg.

And Will.... you remain good for a laugh if nothing else (though I know there's plenty more to you!).

Thanks guys.

yes indeed -- i have read GARCIA'S well-documented account of the descent into coma in other places, like blair jackson's book.... it is really wild! like, you have to wonder how much of his experience was due to who he was and all he had done, drugs and otherwise -- in every sense, as in, if ANYONE was going to be receptive to the idea of talking veggies and just the general scope of weirdness described, Jerry Garcia would be a leading candidate.

i think the key part is, we can safely assume, Jerry Garcia had a higher PSYCHOLOGICAL FEAR THRESHOLD than the average human, to the degree that he could be in a state of essentially dying and yet be able to fully appreciate every bit of STRANGE his senses and nerves were throwing at him.

very WEIRD, just what he was after.

You might enjoy Jerry's follow up to ending up in the hospital too then:

"Well I had some very WEIRD experiences. My main experience was one of furious activity and tremendous struggle in a sort of futuristic, space-ship vehicle with insectoid presences. After I came out of my coma, I had this image of myself as these little hunks of protoplasm that were stuck together kind of like stamps with perforations between them that you could snap off. (Laughter)
They were run through with neoprene tubing and there were these insects that looked like cock-roaches which were like message-units that were kind of like my bloodstream. That was my image of my physical self and this particular feeling lasted for a long time. It was really strange."

All "drawing crazy patterns" on his sheets no doubt.
